"Doing What We Are Supposed To"

Wednesday, October 31.

I helped Louie and Leo do some more roofing today - finishing up some of the smaller parts lower down.  The last roofing is on some of the lower roof parts, but people need to stand there to do siding and painting, so we have to wait a bit.  This afternoon I helped put in some cabinets.  Some of the electrical outlets were misplaced, so we had to do some customizing to the back of the cabinets to accomodate them.
For dinners, they gave us tickets that are accepted by 16 different local restaurants.  We had good Mexican last night, at a place that was kind of out of the way.  Not too many people were going out there, so there weren't a lot of vans coming around to pick people up.  After dinner, we waited a while, then started walking.  It would probably have been three or four miles.   But after about a mile, we found one of the Habitat vans that gave us a ride back to the hotel.

Tonight we went to dinner with a big group of people.  We had been invited by a few of the folks on our house, but we didn't really realize what kind of dinner it was.  It was quite interesting.  It was a group of a couple of dozen people who have met up over the years at many different JCWPs.  A lot of them had been to India last year.  Another one was an Indian whom they had met last year and convinced to come to LA this year.  A couple of fellows were from Boulder, though we didn't get to meet them.  There are a lot of families involved here.  There were three siblings at dinner, one of whom is from Denver.  The organizer of the group was there with his daughter.  The folks who invited us have been to two other JCWPs.  The dad (Dennis) has taken his two grown daughters both other times, and this time they brought one of the girl's boyfriend as well.  It's really amazing to see so many people from all over who all care so much.
